Thank you for contacting our company. It is my pleasure to help you with your upcoming trip.
You have chosen the place right because Baltic Sea is internationally the most interesting wreck research area in the world. And as you may know the Vikings are very interesting.
Baltic Sea has had a huge impact on culture and trade in Finland.
It has brought nations and people closer. Sailors have always been afraid of rocky coasts for a reason. Accidents and piracy have sink lots of ships.
Authorities and specialists register have defined about 1000 wrecks. It's hard to tell but the amount of all the wrecks (including small peasant boats etc.) may be around 3000. In the whole Baltic Sea there are about 10 000 wrecks.
Starting the journey
There is an old trade harbour in Hamina, Tervasaari. You can find there restaraunts, bars and lightvessel that gives you an interesting museum experience.
After that you could travel to Kotka where is Finland's head sea museom. There is a steamer that was built in England in 1906. It is called Tarmo and was used as an icebreaker. From 1960 it has worked as guided museum.
The next stop could be in Loviisa where is seafaring museum. Museum has miniatures of ships and boats and there is also shippaintings and sailorcoffins.
One of my hints is that you could come again in autumn. On 11th of October it is organized traditional regatta about steamers in Helsinki.
